Announcing a new competition on Tome!

The Five Vs short story competition.

First prize is a ViP status for one year!  Woo!

For those of you who don't know, ViP status usually only comes with a real money donation, and removes the ads from Tome.

So, what is the competition I hear you ask?  Simple:

Write a short story.  It must be no more than 2011 words long, and include the words:

    variety, very, vermin, verisimilitude, vain

These words must be used in the story, and not be just spoken by a character in an 'artificial' way (say by them reading the dictionary).

The story must not have been published before, and naturally be the poster's own work.

The genre of the story is up to you.  Stories should be posted as a reply to this thread, and must include a title.

I shall keep this competition open until I deem there are enough entries.  Once the competition is closed, we shall  have a debate about who likes what, and I shall choose the winner.

    Let battle commence!

    Entries so far:

    1. Musings and mind readings - BurningPlain

    2. True Virginity - Saint.

I need no dictionary.  I have an app for chrome which brings up the definition of any word if I double click it.

  • @Saint: I look forward to your entry.

    But first for my own.

    Introducing
    Musings and mind readings.

Well here I am sat in a cafe in Paris. Sipping a glass of cheap red wine, waiting for my meal, watching a wide variety of assorted vermin, scum, tourists and weirdos walking past.

I'm sure there are those who would argue that such a snap judgement about people walking past a cafe in which you are sat sipping cheap wine and waiting for food to arrive.  Well for anyone else it would be. You see the thing is I can read minds. And as I have nothing else to do to alleviate the boredom creeping up on me I'm reading the minds of passers by. Most of them are very boring and frankly I couldn't give a toss about their petty lives however its always fun to mess with criminals.

Speaking of which... one is currently walking past. He's, well, he's not a pleasant chap shall we say. In fact he's a thoroughly unpleasant chap. He works for the Mafia, more specifically he kidnaps people for them. Even more specifically he kidnaps female tourists whom are either visiting Paris alone or in groups composed entirely of other women, in which case he'll kidnap all of them. Now you're wondering why he does this aren't you? More likely though you've already guessed the answer. He sells them into the sex trade.

A really nasty piece work all in all, and one the world will be better without. Now approaching down the street at a little over 35 miles per hour is a bus. According to the driver it weighs in at 15 tonnes. I think it is time I did something about our criminal friend.

Why am I killing him when another will simply spring up in his place? Because I just got all the information I need from him. I know who is bosses are, where and whom he and his pals will be for the next kidnapping. I have everything I need and frankly I very much doubt this piece of shit will be missed by the world.

I create an image of a car. A verisimilitude of a car to be exact. A car which only he can see. It pulls up next to him, the window comes down. Its his friend, come to pick him up. He opens the door, steps into the car, just as the bus travelling at 35 miles per hour ploughs straight into him.

He dies almost instantly. A split second realisation that there was no car. Then the light that was his mind winks out. I feel kind of sorry for the bus driver who is currently screaming in horror, whilst stamping on the breaks.

Now on with this crusade of mine.

:evilnod: ?  We lost a lot of smileys in your absence; some yobs broke in and started rioting and looting.  They were soon evaporated by the might of the Overlord, myself, Angel, Pho, Beep, and NicTei, but they still managed to make off with the catergories, the bastards.

  • So Saint where is this vaunted tale of yours? I see it not. Are you surrendering to the might and superiority of BP? :P
I look forward to seeing what you've got and am sure that as soon as it appears a certain Orange Tomian will appear.

    Words: 2005
    Title: True Virginity

This was a strange and guilty experience for me, but it was her idea.  Even so, as I approached room 34b of the student accommodation, I began thinking that this wasn't for the best.  I could just tell her I did it when I went back?  And then I thought of Marcus's hands on her body and my resolve hardened enough for me to knock the door.  A few seconds with no answer and I turned around, half grateful, but then the chain scraped, the handle clicked, and the door squealed open, sounding as if it didn't want me there, either.  Don't turn around, Charlie, you can still make the stairs if you ru-

“Charlie!  Oh my God, it's so great to see you!”

“Heh, yeah, hi Jessica. Can I come in?”

“Of course!”  I didn't need to look at her to see her beaming smile.  But I had to turn around anyway, and sure enough, there it was plastered across her sweet and youthful face.  At twenty, Jessica had the spirit of a sixteen year-old, the face of a fourteen year-old, and the body of an eighteen year-old.  As she led me in, I couldn't help but notice she'd showered recently – and shaved her legs.  There was something about Jessica's legs that had always enticed me, and – call me vain if you will – but I think she only wore skirts and dresses so often for my benefit.

As I sat down on the two-seater sofa, she rushed to the kettle, the blue summer dress rippling as if in a light wind.

“Can I get you a tea?” She always made me a mug of tea.

    “No.”

“Oh.  So it's one of those visits?” she said, her knowing voice laden with sympathy for the problem I'd yet to tell her.  Within seconds she was at my side with our hands interlaced.  “Tell your best friend all about it.”

Best friend.  In two words emerged the reason I was here.  Now all I had to do was explain it.

“Things...  aren't going too well between Amy and me.”  And the look on her face was why I'd come to Jessica.  She showed more sadness than I felt.  Genuine, too, not false.  I'd known her long enough to realise she didn't have the ability to fake any emotion.  “Day-to-day life is getting boring, and there's no spark left in the bedroom.”  She grimaced at the mention of my sex life, but tried badly to hide it.  “I know you don't like hearing about my antics... ahem... behind closed doors, but that's why I'm here.”  Confusion and anticipation fought for position on her face.  My other hand rested against the smooth skin of her knee without me realising it had gone there.

    “What are you talking about?”

“She thinks we should get a little more variety between the sheets.  It took me a while to agree, but it was only after I did that she admitted she'd already fucked Marcus.”  Her hand quivered and I loosened my grip apologetically.  “I don't quite know how to say this...  I couldn't picture myself doing this with anyone but you...  and you probably think of me as vermin for even suggesting it, but...”

I looked down into my lap in nerves, only to notice her dress had scooted up her leg.  My fingers were stroking against the wet patch on the front of her pink flower-print panties.  And then my cheek burst into flames.

“Charles!” she shrieked like... well, like a violated girl.

“I'm sorry,” I quickly apologised, standing in a fraction of a second and moving towards the door.

“Wait.  Charlie, wait!”  She just managed to grab my arm before I left, but I pulled away.  This was a bad idea; we were just friends.  “I didn't mean to slap you, I'm sorry.  I just...  Well, you know about what I've been through.”  I can heal the scars and make sex feel good again.  No, don't say that you dick.  What do you think this is, some bad erotica?  Just leave, and you'll preserve what's left of the friendship you've held for twelve years.

She grabbed my arm again and this time I stopped and turned.  So delicate was the way she raised her hand to my cheek and stroked it.  Her eyes avoided mine, but there was too much affection to turn away now.  The fingertips weren't soft, but the rough, worn quality gave a contrast to Amy's always-conditioned hands.  A welcome contrast.  Jessica bit her lip lightly and tried to find words.

“If it's for your relationship...”  I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing.  “We've both been...   We've both done it before,” there was a pang of regret behind that part,  “I suppose it wouldn't ruin our friendship if I gave you... benefits... for a day.”

“But you haven't done it before,” I noted.  “Not by choice.”

“And if I chose anyone I'd choose you, okay!?” she blurted, then covered her mouth.  Her face flushed a light pinky-peach, not the deep red of clichéd fantasy, but its cuter, more subtle twin.  “Um... Where do we start?”

“I don't know.  Just don't force anything.  Do what feels right.  Whatever adds to the verisimilitude.”  She smiled; she'd taught me that word two years back, and it was pretty much the only one over four syllables I knew.  She also taught me about syllables.

When she rushed up to hug me, I noticed for the first time how short she was.  She was tall for girls of her age, but she still only rested her forehead on my shoulder as her breasts pressed into the bottom of my ribcage.  So many years of hugs where I could feel them guiltily.  I'd felt them grow from the very start – and even remembered an embarrassing conversation near the start of her development. Now, as if reading my mind, she moved my hand up her dress and placed it, carefully, on her heart.

“Are you wearing a bra?” I mumbled curiously.  She closed her eyes and leant her head back.

“Find out,” she whispered in response.

She was.  My hand crept inside the dress, which was cropped just at the start of her cleavage, and slid between the skin and the padded material of the underwear.  I tried not to think of how many times I'd lusted for a moment like this before I'd met Amy.  Each of those times had just been a desperate moment of self-pleasure, though; I'd never have thought I'd get to experience it.  When my fingers encountered the areola with so much more sensitivity than Amy's, Jessica stifled a shudder as I reached the nipple about an inch later.  My palm squeezed the flesh, and she took in a deep breath as her cheeks pinkened further.

    “You're sensitive,” I noted needlessly.

    “You're gentler than... he was.”

“Don't compare this to him; he was only pleasing himself.  We're friends, doing this for each other.”  This seemed to spark something in her.  The hand on my arm, holding me away from the door, began leading back to the sofa.  It took until then to sink in, but she really wanted this.  We were actually going to go through with it.  She pulled my hand away from her breast, and asked me to turn around.

“You don't need to be nervous,” I cooed.

“Please?” she begged with all the youth and innocence she could gather.  I couldn't say no.  Now behind me, she commenced a lot of shuffling and moving.  There was a very faint but definitely present click.  Then two familiar arms protruded from either side of my torso and began unbuttoning the shirt from the top down.  The fingers took care with the buttons, caressing each one before coaxing it undone.  On my back, through the thin fabric of the shirt, I felt her chest, and above that, her nipples; firm and hard, yet soft.  When she shed my shirt and turned me around again, her dress and bra were heaped on the floor behind her, and she covered her breasts with her arms as she lay on the sofa, legs split just enough reveal the faintly growing wet patch on her knickers.  She was nervous, but grinning, and it became clear that she'd wanted this for much longer than she'd let on.  The bulge in my jeans was unmistakable now, and as I peeled them off, I admired the body that society would pass off as 'a bit chubby'.  I knew her dress size; I bought her a new one each birthday.  12.  Where others saw imperfection, I saw beauty radiating from twelve years of careful friendship.

“How long have you been waiting for this?” I whispered as I widened her legs so that I could lie not beside her, but on top of her.  Her panties began soaking my boxers, and my member pressed against her vagina.

“A while,” she admitted so quietly and bashfully that I hardly heard it.  She'd spoken it as if it were taboo.  “Since...  You met Amy.”  Her lips parted as she said this, and her neck craned upwards, so I leant down into what I'd feared all along.  This was the reason I'd not wanted to come here tonight.  I could have gone clubbing and pulled a random girl I didn't care for, but deep down I knew there was only one person I could share this particular problem with.  Jessica had been with me since long before Amy walked into my life, and thus it was always her I approached with my problems.  Especially the problems I had with Amy.  As I kissed her, her hand infiltrated my boxer shorts and removed my penis.  I slid the panties to one side as she guided me in, bare.  I'd brought a condom along – ribbed and dotted for her pleasure – but I knew now that I wasn't going to need it.  I'd be breaking up with Amy in the morning.

“Can we act like Amy and Garth never happened?” she gasped as she pulled out of the kiss.  This was the first time I'd heard her speak his name since he'd taken advantage of her.  This was obviously a huge moment.  I didn't speak; just nodded.  She bit her lip as I started grinding myself in and out of her, slowly and gradually speeding up.

“Be gentle, please.  He was only concerned with how quick he could go.”

Yes, I remember that.  In possibly the most intimate conversation we'd ever had to this date, she'd told me about how it had throbbed, like someone was constantly punching her gut from the inside – even afterwards.  I slowed down.  Amy loved it rough, and, in hindsight, I don't actually remember any sensual sessions between us.  So grinding slowly and carefully for the first time, the encounter became, for both of us, as if we were losing our virginity again.  Her moist insides provided all the lubrication I'd normally need to apply artificially, and the slower rhythm somehow took more effort and more breath.  She lay under me panting in ecstasy, and her shallow moans and quick breaths drove me more crazy than any of Amy's fancy lingerie could ever achieve.  Without the speed I was used to, I had to rely on Jessica's pleasure to get my kicks, but that's not to say it wasn't more than enough.  When her pussy finally started twitching and a deep, guttural moan escaped her with the orgasm, it was purely the knowledge of her pleasure that started the cascade of semen into her awaiting vagina, and I knew right there and then that I'd never truly made love to Amy.

I'd just lost my true virginity.  And with the right girl, this time.

  • Some really good reads here.  May have to dust off my mojo and enter this one; although seems I'll facing some still competition (no pun intended).
