After all our upgrades we’ve been running smoothly on Tome for a few weeks. There are still a few tweaks to do, but the main work is done.
So all there is to do now is wish everyone a Happy Christmas!

Tome City is currently stable after its upgrade, and we’re working at loading the modifications, so please be patient.
Hopefully we’ll be up to speed by the end of this week!
After our move to the new host we began our upgrades to TomeCity.com.
Unfortunately this has meant that many features Tomians are used to have, for the most part, vanished. This should be a temporary thing though, as it takes some time for these modifications (mods) to be re-input.
Once we’re back up and running fully, the next stage will be the new Book e-market, which will allow you to publish and sell your own ebooks!

The recent problems with Tome were mainly down to our old host (JustHost.com) cutting the site off when it spiked over 10% of the shared server it was hosted on. Even though their responses to my requests were usually fairly fast, it became annoying.
So I hired a fellow to a: Look at the possible problems causing this and b: Move us to a new host. Almost as soon as I did this Justhost cut us off again, so I decided to move us to a new host sooner rather than later.
There have been a couple of small teething problems, but we’re now on the new host (WJunk). Hopefully this will result in less downtime in the future!
The final thing I’ve hired our fellow to do is upgrade TomeCity.com to the latest version of the software. Once this is all done I’ll be implementing Tome City ebook market.

We’re still adding features here on Tome.
Our last one was a ‘read later’ flag for posts that you don’t have time to read now, but would like to be reminded about later on.
The future also holds an e-bookstore that will allow you to sell your ebooks in your own section (and get paid to your own Paypal account).
We also have another custom mod on the way which should be up and running within the week, so keep a look out for that too!
Finally I’m looking at upgrading to the stable version of SMF, the board type upon which Tome runs. This will be a big one though, so more planning needed for that.
Tome’s been having some problems today. We have some kind of technical fault which is causing excessive CPU utilisation on the host, and they then cut us off.
Anyway, we’re back for the moment, and I’ve brought in an expert to help try and get to the source of the problems.
In the meantime we could still have some downtime. I’ll update this blog and TomeCity on Facebook and Twitter with any news.
Thanks for being patient!

Wordpress on Tome City
Well now you can! Tome City is offering free hosting for personal blogs!
The blogs can be used for just about anything* and you can put your own advertisements on them, or not, as you like.
Tome City uses WordPress as a blog system, and you’ll get your own logon and title, assuming it hasn’t been taken already of course.
For example, this blog’s address (URL) is: www.TomeCity.com/Overlord.
…so you would replace ‘Overlord’ with your own name.
The WordPress platform allows you to manage your blogs from within the admin system, which you’ll be able to login to of course. From here you can do just about anything** you need to. Upload your daily entry, add upgrades that link to Facebook, there’s a whole load of plugins in the WordPress community available for you to use!
If you want your free Tome City blog, simple drop me an email at: Overlord@TomeCity.com, or reply to this post.
Disclaimers:
*Okay, not anything exactly. You can’t host porn or content that’s illegal or offensive, but anything within reason!
**FTP access not included.
I’m always looking for ways to make Tome a better place for members. This often involves adding new features, and just lately we’ve had a few of these.
Firstly there’s a new chat feature. Click on the Who’s Online area at the bottom of the screen, and you can send a chat message to anyone of the other Tomians around.
Then we have an improvement to the polls, for those stories that have voting. There’s now an, optional, feature to see who’s voted.
Finally we have our first custom modification. When a writer posts a new chapter, the chapter can now be highlighted in the new prominent column to the left side, alerting any readers to the fact there’s new stuff to read.
Just a few more services brought to you by Tome City – For Writers and Readers.
A little while ago Tome City launched its own ‘Magazine’ blog: www.TomeJournals.com
We already have several talented writers contributing to this. However, we still need more authors and articles! If you are interested in posting any kind of interesting article on Tome Journals, then please just pop over there and register. Then send me a PM or email and I’ll set you up as an author.
TJ is aimed at any kind of article you feel may be of interest. Whilst this can include stories, that’s not really our focus on there. Of course, articles about writing and so on are welcome! We have reviews, opinions and more there already. There’s no minimum posting requirement as far as time or subject goes (though I reserve the right to de-publish articles that are badly written ).
So pay a visit. You too can be a Journaler!
Tome City is pleased to announce its new sister site: Tome Tunes.
Tome Tunes is a site dedicated to all things musical. As always with Tome sites, it’s totally free to visit, and you’re welcome to come along, browse the forums and post material that interests you!
So if you’re a music fan, post your favorite videos, review a band, or just chat with the other members.
