Supermarkets in China, the big ones especially, are often very crowded. They have a decent selection of goods mind, although obviously aimed at the local market.
One difference in China compared to the west is the amount of fresh food that is eaten. Prepackaged stuff, whilst available in reasonable quantities, is nothing like as common as western supermarkets. Instant foods etc are fairly limited.
The meat and seafood is fresh too, and when I mean fresh, I mean they’re still swimming about! If a customer wants one, the unfortunate creature is plucked and either slaughtered or bagged on the spot. The method of killing isn’t really swift and painless either oft as not. I’ve seen a turtle (in Wal Mart) have its head sawn off whilst still alive. Rather slowly and cruelly too I may add.
Anyway, here’s the selection in the local Careforre:

During my visit in Wenzhou – we also went to one of those supermarkets…..
Walking there…. and all of a sudden a huge fish jumps out of his “little pool” – to the ground….
I can assure you – that is VERY VERY VERY WEIRD for a Dutch guy walking over there…
AND; very strange – to be totally “checked out” by the people…. the “oooh”‘s and the “aaaaah”‘s – because two of those TALL white guys walking in that store…
(and yep – we know they where talking about us – because we also had a Chinese collegue walking behind us…and he told us that those people where “checking us out” and making comments about our appearance…. lol)
